Good stuff here. I'm trying to transition from youtube to substack. I'm also getting away from the people at the absolute top wanting to capture 1% of their success. I'm enjoying finding creators who are several steps ahead of me and more relatable.

I don't think one is better than the other. Both have utility. Both can be a timesink.

Following creators who aren't outliers can be motivating. It makes goals feel more achievable. When I went to an indie hacker conference, it felt good knowing that all the people who hosted podcasts I listened to were just people, they weren't particularly lucky or smart or hardworking. They picked a different path and went hard on it.

Something I didn't talk about here was content for energy and emotion - take for example this Georgia Hype Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZmawlgQ0Nk

It's not educational, it's not entertaining in the traditional sense. But, it can help you get in the right mindset, and that kind of content, if it spurs you into action, has utility.

Gary V is the business version of these hype videos. Zero educational content, but it gets the people hustlin'

Solid advice as always. I think I’ve found the end of YouTube because I get frequent suggestions for “How to quit YouTube.” Like, what?! If I wanted to quit then I’d just delete the app. But it feels like I’m quitting YouTube by watching quitting videos. Insane.
