Very true. I love Andy Matushack's stuff. Note taking is not the point. The reading one is interesting. I've tried taking notes while I read but it definitely feels like a different process than just reading. If I really want to interanlize a text what has worked for me is doing a read of the book, and then doing a second pass with a notebook in hand.
That sounds awesome! Had not heard of the tool before but it looks interesting. I also try to constantly review and refresh when working. With my manager workbook I sit with it twice a week, but these are things I would be doing without a notebook: Once to set intentions and plan for the week, once to review & converge everything together.
In addition to Joan's and Sasha's takes that are mentioned here, I'd like to raise these two notes by Andy Matuschak:
1. The most effective readers and thinkers I know don’t take notes when reading (https://notes.andymatuschak.org/The_most_effective_readers_and_thinkers_I_know_don%E2%80%99t_take_notes_when_reading)
2. People who write extensively about note-writing rarely have a serious context of use (https://notes.andymatuschak.org/People_who_write_extensively_about_note-writing_rarely_have_a_serious_context_of_use)

as the founder of sublime.app i feel very seen reading this
people ask me all the time how our tool can help them revisit their notes, or build a habit, etc... and i don't really get it.
I don't need artificial review systems because I am constantly reviewing notes in the context of what you are working on, not some forced system.
My sublime collections are useful because they genuinely reflect my work, goals, and intentions - not some arbitrary knowledge base with tags.
